pendleton plaid

I had a really good day at work today. I finally feel so much better about all the crap that was going on before. So with that and the fact that I felt like I looked pretty cute today, I'd say this Wednesday was a success! Chris and I had some pizza for dinner and that was just the cherry on top (I really love pizza...). Anyway. Here's to the rest of the week being just as sucessful! Happy hump day!

the helm: restoration

I haven't been very good at blogging 3 times a week, but at least I'm still clocking in at once a week! I really don't have an excuse except for the fact that I've been feeling a little fat and blah lately, and so I don't feel like have my picture taken. And honestly, I haven't had much going on to blog about! Except for my first ever art show this past Friday! So that's kind of a big deal.

(In case you're wondering, that's me! So not only did I have work in the show, I was also a model of sorts!)

(That's my friend/coworker, Jerika, and some of her friends, all modeling more of her gorgeous hats!)

(Doing our "serious artist" face)

(Posing in front of my photos! They were all taken & edited with my iPhone!)

(Me with my fellow-photog-friend, Alan)

(Me and my BFF-artist-in-crime, Riley. He was the one who put the WHOLE thing together! And he also did the portrait of me from above. There were portraits of each artist in the show that lined the walls, all connected with quotes of inspiration and yarn! So creative)

(My friend, Cynthia. She was a huge help to Riley putting The Helm together. She's also an awesome photographer!)

(Christopher! ♥ he was such a good holder-of-things-that-wouldn't-fit-in-my-pockets-b/c-I-refused-to-carry-my-purse and a good photo-taker and all-around good sport for the night!)

(the beautiful, Michelle, another BFF)

(We then went to the Alabama Music Box after we ate dinner @ Hopjack's, and watched Givers play!)

All-in-all, it was a really great night. I hung out with a lot of people that I don't get to see very often, and it felt really good to see everyone come and support me and the other artists in the show. I get really lonely over here where my only friends are coworkers and Chris. And even then, Jerika is really the only one I feel like I can really count on for friendship at the moment. None of my other coworkers came to my show! Even though they told me they would... I feel let down because it seems like something that meant so much to me didn't mean anything to them, but I know I shouldn't put that much thought into it. It hurts but it just goes to show that your true friends show up for you when you need them most, and the others can't be called more that close acquaintances. It's so frustrating sometimes to think that you're making head-way with new friends only to be let down. I just want to make some more friends that I can count on! But I still can't forget the friends that DID show up, and for that, I couldn't be more grateful.

Anyway, I wish I'd taken some more outfit shots, but really, you're only missing the shoes. Wait, the shoes are almost always the most important part! So for that, I'm sorry you're missing the shoes, because trust, they are FINE. And quite possibly my new favs. I'll make it up to you this week I swear!

quarter century celebration

I celebrated my 25th birthday on Saturday, the 7th. It was better than the past few birthdays I've had, and I think it helped that I tried to put as little expectations into it as I could. Usually I get all excited and end up getting let down... no one wants to hang out, plans fall through, football games get in the way, etc. The Saints play-off game only prevented one friend from attending my birthday dinner this time, although I still would never see any sort of sports engagement more important than celebrating a friend's birthday, but that's just me I guess.

We started the day at TatoNut, a local doughnut shop in Ocean Springs that has amazing doughnuts; totally worth waiting in line 30 (!) minutes for. I opened some presents from Chris, which included the Fashion Cats book, an adorable acrylic anchor necklace, and some super cute vintage shoes I've had my eye on! He did so good! Not to mention, he got me some flowers, some Ben & Jerry's, and he even brought candles with him to dinner! I had no idea! I'm so lucky to have him!

My parents came to town from Mobile to eat lunch, give me some more presents, and shop for frames for my photography for my very first real art show on Friday. They also brought me some cupcakes from Twist, my favorite cupcake place! All-in-all, I'd say it was a pretty good birthday. I even found an excuse to bust out my Grandma's fur stole!

2012: a fresh start

I took a few months off, regrettably, but I'm back now and I plan to keep this blog up for real this time! I've always loved blogging and journaling, and lately I've been neglecting it (and many other things I love) because I've been so upset, depressed, and stressed out because of work. I won't get into it here, because I'm tired of dwelling on negative things. I have to forced myself to think of really random things when going to sleep at night just so I CAN sleep. So anyway, I wanted to post yesterday, but I always wanted to do a little blog re-design for the new year, so I thought I'd wait until I was done to make my entry. Whatdya think? I'm loving it so far! It's cute and it makes me happy to look at, so I'd say "success!"

Since I've got a few more things I need to tackle before I get ready to go back to work tomorrow, I'll go ahead and list the obligatory New Year's Resolutions:

1. Force myself to do things that make me happy, regardless of how stressed/fatigued I am.
I've already started with making time to bake things, shoot some photos, and I'm even putting together some art to go in my very first show next Friday! Work has got me so stressed that I literally have no energy to do anything when I get home. Not to mention I'm being forced to stay late, even when there's no work to do. But anyway. I'm determined this year to make my life more about ME and the things I want to do, and not just pouring everything I am into work.

2. Lose 20lbs.
I know. It's on the list every year, but I'm hoping by forcing me to shift into making my happiness a priority, that I'll actually accomplish this goal in 2012. I tried really hard last year, the hardest I've tried in a while, but only managed to fluctuate the same 10lbs for the entire year. This year, I'm not dwelling on the past. I'm hitting the gym, training to run a 5k, and fueling my body with what it needs to accomplish this. I'm not counting calories or following any program. After counting calories all year and only ending up adding more stress to my life, I feel confident knowing that I can chose what to eat to meet my goals.

3. Blog 3 times a week.
Blogging has been a goal for a few years now, but I really feel like I'm ready to put my blog up there with the list of "Things That Make Me Happy." I love looking back after blogging a year or so just to see what I accomplished and to reminisce on fond memories.

4. Open an Etsy store. For real this time
I had an Etsy store about a year ago that sold my photographic prints, but after only one sale, I let it go my the wayside. I love photography, but I wasn't really passionate about making money from it. I have some ideas this time that I feel I can really get behind, and I'm hoping I'll be able to profit from it both mentally and monetarily. It'll either be selling crafts, or vintage clothing/accessories. We'll see!

5. Find a new job.
Yea. Like I said, I really don't want to get into it, because every time I vent about things on the interwebs, I get in trouble. Or so it seems. So to avoid that, I'm going to just leave that goal at that. Really though, I'm just ready to not live in the deep south anymore. So really, this goal could be "move out of the south." I wanna live somewhere where it snows!

What are you goals? Do you complete yours from 2011? I tried to find my 2011 resolutions... and I don't think I made any! Or, at least any that I wrote down. Oh well. Happy New Year, y'all!
